What is this new API announced for Firepass?
As some may have noticed today, F5 announced a new client API for the FirePass™ Controller. (http://f5.com/f5/news/press/release052404.html)
This is yet another innovation from F5 to complement our ongoing iControl initiatives to enable developers to integrate applications with the underlying network for greater control and automation.
Here are the basics about the client API:
The FirePass Client API is an ActiveX control providing an interface and methods for use by third-party applications. Using this API, the applications can access FirePass SSL VPN, App Tunnels, and Terminal Server Connector Favorites. Application developers and vendors can use it to provide seamless remote access from their proprietary application clients to application servers inside a FirePass-accessible network.
Third-party applications can invoke the FirePass Client API from these environments:
-- Any development environment supporting COM and ActiveX controls; for example, VisualBasic, VisualC++, and !Delphi
-- Scripting environments, including JavaScript, VBScript inside Internet Explorer, and Windows Scripting Host.
Stay tuned for more details to come, including a full SDK that provides detailed interface and method documentation as well as samples. As with our existing iControl API for traffic management products, DevCentral will be the central location for ongoing developer guidance, technical tips, and discussion in the forum.
Until then, let us know if you have questions or feedback...
Thanks,
- Jeff
