Dec 01, 2008Watchdog error
Hello,
I am getting the following from the CLI during bootup on my 6400LTM
BIG-IP 9.2.5 Build 5.1
Kernel 2.4.21-9.2.5.5.0smp on an i686
bigip2.network.cco login: 1 Dec 22:00:41 ntpdate[217]: no server suitable for synchronization found
System is booting, please wait...
WARNING: Reset caused by watchdog timeout!
Hit any key to stop autoboot: 0
It would reboot, lock up and the management IP becomes inaccessible. Sometimes after a power reset it would allow me to log in at the console and gui. However, after a short time the management IP would become inaccessible again. The interface is also shut down by the BIP.
The LCD is also blinking and is inaccessible. It has a blank screen.
We are running a pair of LTM 6400s and this one is the standby unit and it does not have a F5 support contract on it. Our active unit does have support with F5.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi there,
I'm not sure what would cause the watchdog timeout on boot. It sounds like a significant problem if the unit is spontaneously crashing/rebooting. Running a production pair without support for both units isn't a good state to be in. You won't be able to run the two units on different versions and you won't be able to upgrade the unit without a support contract.
You might try opening a case with F5 Support. In the past, they'd give you one free support case without a contract. They could help you diagnose the problem. Else, if you're really stuck, you might be able to get more information from the system logs under /var/log/. Worst case, you might be able to reinstall the existing version without a support contract.
