VIPRION Setup?

Hi,

I have two VIPRION chassi w/ two blade each.

I like to know if below setup is possible using vCMP Guest?

Chassi 1

Guest 1 - will use Slot 1 ( Active )

Guest 2 - will use Slot 2 ( Active )

Chassi 2

Guest 1 - will use Slot 1 ( Standby of Chassi 1 Guest 1)

Guest 2 - will use Slot 2 ( Standby of Chassi 1 Guest 2 )

Hoping for your insights.

Thanks in advance,

Tony

  • Hi Tony,

Yes, this should be possible, but why not create your guests across the blades. That way if one blade goes down, your guest keeps on running and you get extra resilience. Make sure to create network trunk links that also span both blades if you do it this way.

    Stewart.

  • Hi Stewart,

    Thanks for your reply.

We did this design because we need to replace their existing 4qty x F5 units and we are bind to the number of physical ports previously connected to it. Also we don't want much changes on the network.

Anyway, we will test this out.

    Thanks again, appreciate it much.

  • Btw Stewart, if above is possible does it mean that the blade in Chassi1 Slot3 will no longer be in Standby Blade and will process network traffic?

  • Hi Tony,

    You hadn't mentioned slot3 before ;o)

You can get any blade to process network traffic, it's just a case of allocating resources on it to the guest.

This is a good document for vCMP resource allocation. http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/vcmp-viprion-configuration-11-4-1/2.html
