Vcmp hosts and Guests upgradation
Hi Friends,
first time i am going to upgrade VCMP based appliances. we have 2 vCMP Hosts in active/active and each host, there is 2 Guests.guest1 is active and other guest2 is standby on one Host while in other host, guest1 is standby and guest2 is active.
please suggest if anything is wrong here or will not work as assuming less downtime or network outage:
as per my plan,
Note: hotfix is uploaded and installed.Only need to reboot with active partition.
S.No.Activity Steps
1Will sync the config from active to standby unit 2Will collect ucs from all Vhosts and guests 3Will make all Vguest active in Host1 and will start activity in Host2 where all the guests are in standby mode 4Will shutdown Vguests at Vhost 2(which is currently standby for all the guests) and apply the license 5Will install 11.6 on new volume 6Will reboot Vhosts after making new partition active 7Once Vhost with new hotfix and partition will come up, will power up both guests and will repeat the steps 5 and 6 for guest1 and guest2 8Will make all the Vguests active on host2 and check the traffic once everything will fine, repeat steps 4 to 7 on Host1 10Once upgradation on Vhost 1 with its guest will be done, will again check the traffic
will appreciate an early response.

Looks good...Make sure you activate/re renew your license before the upgrades on vCMP hosts again. This will stamp the updated Service check date. What are you shutting down? I am not clear on that. You don't have to shut anything down. So to min the impact leave the active devices on lest say host 1 now your host 2 will have the 2 stby devices. Put the stby devices in offline mode and upgrade - reboot into the new partition. Offline to Stby...and do the same over on other host...make sure that newly upgraded devices are active and are getting traffic before you start working on the other devices. I followed the same plan...looks good. Oh open a proactive Sev-4 ticket with F5 just in case you have any issues. Upload Pre upgrade UCS to iHealth.

Hi Finally i successfully upgraded all my DC and DR vcmp hosts and guests as well. in minimal downtime. that was the first experience for me .no need to down or disable the guests. but be careful . need to sync standby device first and start up gradation from standby devices.after upgradation, shift the traffic on standby.
