VCMP host self IP addresses are not visible to VCMP guests
Hi there, according to doc you can configure self IP addresses on the vCMP host to facilitate basic network connectivity tests but the VCMP host self IP addresses are not visible to VCMP guests. I m confused. Is this related to K3475: The BIG-IP system may not respond to requests for a self IP address

John,
this is purely optional and not related to that SOL. In a vCMP setup with hosts and guests, you configure the VLANS and trunks at the vCMP Host, when you create a guest these are propogated configurations to the guest. In the guest itself, treat this otherwise as a bigip in its own right and configure floating and non-floating self IP addresses. You do not need to configure self IPs on the host for a guest to have network connectivity. You can also configure self IP addresses on the vCMP host to facilitate basic network connectivity tests
Hope this helps.
Note: i wonder if a newer version of the vCMP guide has it outlined more clearer. Here's the link anyway, just in case:

I understood, you want to test the connectivity from a guest to other IPs in that network. You can try reaching the guests part of the same VLAN or you can try ping/(check arp table post ping fail, if icmp blocked at remote device) other network devices in that VLAN.
Hi Narendren, I m trying to understand what it means that the guest can't see the host self ip. For ex. pings won't work? What can ping the host self ip? What can the host self ip ping? I don't have access to a viprion so i can't really test this.

the host self ips aren't propogated to the guest self ips, they need their own setting up. Other network devices should be able to ping the self IPs, of both guest and host i believe
Thanks! This is what I was thinking too.
