Dec 24, 2007updating ltm vip, ssl profiles, and pool names
So I'm looking at updating the names of several elements (vip, ssl profile, and pool names) to introduce consistency to our naming conventions on our ltms.
First, downtime is perfectly acceptable I'll probably make a point to do this in the middle of the night. Next at some point I'd like to update the ltm to be at the same version as the gtms.
Now for the question, ideally I would love not to have to go through each vip, pool, and ssl profile via the gui and update one at a time, but is this the preferred method? I had thought about starting over from scratch, and script adding all of the pools, vips, and ssl profiles. Or, can I modify the conf directly days before hand, and once the update is completed, copy it in place and do a b load? Any suggestions?

You could script the addition of new objects using the bigpipe command. But as you mentioned, it would probably be easiest to edit a copy of the bigip.conf. You can verify the syntax of the copy using 'b verify load /var/tmp/bigip.conf'. - Jacob_Becker

I agree.... I didn't know about b verify load, so thats a good tip I'll add that to my next test.
