Traffic Class.

I'm little bit confuse on the TRAFFIC CLASS properties, what does classification or classification ID means?

A traffic class allows you to classify traffic according to a set of criteria that you define, such as source and destination IP addresses. In creating the traffic class, you define not only classification criteria, but also a classification ID. Once you have defined the traffic class and assigned the class to a virtual server, Local Traffic Manager associates the classification ID to each traffic flow. In this way, Local Traffic Manager can regulate the flow of traffic based on that classification.

  • Hi Meng

They're a bit like a GUI for a small part of the iRule functionality. It lets you define a criterias, which when matched will send the traffic to a pool of your choice, redirect it and/or rewrite the uri.

They've been removed since v11.4 though so if you plan to upgrade you might want to reconsider using them.

  • Thanks Patrick we will check your suggestion.. correct me if my understanding is wrong "CLASSIFICATION ID" means classifying the incoming traffic?

  • I am very sorry. I read your question and saw http classes. Traffic classes is an entirely different thing. I lack experience in terms of the WOM module but I read up on it a bit now and you're right, the classification id seems to be set based on source, destination and their ports. It's then used by the ltm to regulate flows based on the ids.

    Sorry about the confusion.

The problem here seems to be that all the docs show how to create a traffic class, but there is no information at all on how to "regulate flows based on the IDs"
