Topology based Question

Hi All,

We are trying to setup topology load balancing on wideip level there are three VIPS in the pool . One for US , Emea , and Asia then if US Ltm goes down then where will be the user be directed to and HOw through topology.inc ?

Thanks an Regards

  • Topology will require multiple pools. It's configured at the wide IP level and will use records to determine which pool to balance to.

    For the sake of example, let's say you took your pool with three members and split it into three pools each with one member. You could then build topology records to balance requests from certain countries/regions/etc. to your pools as you describe. In the event that the GTM has an equal score for two or more pools from a topology perspective, the GTM should round robin across those pools.

    Regardless of which load balancing method you use, the pool and its members will have to be active before any client requests will be resolved to them (unless you aren't health checking the pools/members).

  • thanks cory . So if in region.user i have

    region us{ some ips of the client/ ldns }

    then region asia{ some ips of ldns }

    WIdeip abc.wideip.com { lb topology pool us--->has three members ltm's at different DC and similar in other pools also pool asia pool emea }

    now if pool us goes down then in topology.inc will this will suffice i think pool us user."us" 100 pool emea user."emea" 100 pool emea user."us" 50

    And also topology what is the diference of topology at wideip and pool level ?

  • Topology load balancing is applied at the wide IP level only. If you have multiple pool members then you'll need to use a different method of load balancing at that level.

  • Topology load balancing is applied at the Wide IP and pool level. At the Wide IP level topology is used to select a pool. A the pool level topology is used to select a pool member.
