SSL Intercept 1.0 iapp - Layer 3 device

Attempting to configure 1.0 iapp and the layer 3 device is a single IP. If I'm setting up a Linux box in my lab, can I just configure the IP and DG as the Self IP on it's own VLAN (and then turn on IP forwarding?) This is working in explicit mode, but not transparent?
