We are looking at fronting our SQL servers with F5 VIPs (hostnames). Current web server -> sql server (by name) Future idea web server -> f5 VIP (listening on 1433) -> sql server We are thinking of multiple hostnames for separate databases on the SQL server.. would i be able to phrase the hostnames with an iRule just like a HTTP request?? thoughts??

Just to add to what kulastone is trying to do here - parse a SQL hostname and do pool sorting as necessary.
