SMTP VS forward to another VS

I have 2 Virtual servers created that are forwarding SMTP traffic to Proofpoint secure email appliances. One virtual server is handling internal traffic and the other external. Both forward to the exact same pool members. It works fine this way and isn't really an issue, I'm just wondering if there is cleaner way to do this? Is it possible to forward traffic destined to the Internal VS to the external VS and remove the pool configuration on the internal server?

 

Just looking for the best way to do this, let me know if more information is needed.
