SMTP configuration on 11.3.0
Hi Everyone, I just noticed that on the GUI of my 11.3.0 box I have the SMTP configuration, I just wanted to know what alerts the box will be sending on the configured e-mail? Has anyone tried it?
Regards,

- Robin_Mordasie1Historic F5 AccountWith default settings you will not see anything being sent to the smtp server, however within certain modules you can configure reports to be sent out. Fro example, AVR allows you to specify an SMTP configuration for emailing reports, and ASM also allows for reports to be automatically emailed out. So you are not going to see emails about objects "turning red" or monitors failing, and nor should you rely on this. The F5 box is not intended to be a replacement for your incident management software. All emails and alerts for objects failing should be sent out from your alert station. The F5 device should be configured to log remotely or to send snmp traps to another device which manages alerts.

Hi Robin Thanks for the reply what do you mean by "with default value you will not see anything being sent to the smtp server" which default value are you talking about here? As in the SMTP configuration area I don't see any configuration for the types of msgs or logs to be sent to the specified e-mail id and that is what I wana know if there are no configuration on that page as to what should be send out then where it will be configured.
Your reply for the last three lines I will say this completely depends on the environment. When the environment is small no matter which the vendor is the box has to do the job when the environment is big and we can't rely on box there comes specialized logging and reporting tools. Having said that this is something totally out of context of what i wanted to know.
Kindly share your knowledge of how it will be done pls
