set_active_partition and the Common partition

When set_active_partition is set to something other than "Common", objects in the common partition are not accessible. From the Wiki it appears that is design intent.

 

 

That being said, is it reasonable to expect that iControl behave similarly to the GUI, in that partition X can be the active partition and I still see/access objects in the Common partition? I'm considering submitting an RFE, but wanted to get a read on it here first.
