i think i know the answer already, but is there any want to refuse a tcp connection in the first place if all pool members are down? Not sure this really going to be connected to iR...

as you were... nothing to see here (unless you think otherwise...)
my own answer seems to be that you should use a fastL4 profile instead of a standard one, and that at least silently drops the packets without completing the handshake.
