Redirecting external website through F5

Hello. Complete newbie here. I apologize for any obvious things I don't know or am misunderstanding.

My goal is to use F5 ASM's WAF (Web Application Firewall) on various websites.

Is it possible to do something like redirecting an external website through F5. That is, something like this.

  1. Outgoing URL from network goes through F5
  2. F5 server notices this and protects user (I think I read somewhere that it only filters incoming traffic though)
  3. Returns like normal

or

  1. Set up some IP that creates a virtual circuit between F5 in the network and the external URL
  2. When visiting this IP, F5 WAF kicks in. This one is more like what denyall does, if anyone is familiar with that.

My own experimenting tells me that this isn't possible, but hopefully someone can tell me otherwise (or confirm). I am somewhat unsure what to put in the pool members and the virtual address for my scenario if it were possible.

Thanks.

EDIT: I guess the term I forgot to mention was Reverse Proxy. Could I use the WAF/ASM as a reverse proxy on a website?

EDIT 2: After realizing the term and looking it up, there are a number of people asking related questions. I still haven't figured this system out yet though, so I guess my question now becomes, "What do I put for the pool members?" Do I just use the website's IP and port?

  • Are you trying to use the F5 as a forward proxy like a Bluecoat?

Or are you trying to protect websites you own with ASM?

Trying to protect websites I don't own with ASM, though the protection does not have to apply for anyone outside of my network.
