Jun 28, 2010Ram Cache hits counted as thoughput
Hi,
I am wondering if the traffic hitting our cached data in the RAM cache is counted as throughput?
Background:
We are going to use a BigIP 3600 which according to the specs have a maximum throughput of 2Gbps. The traffic that is load balanced towards our server farm is not that extensive, but if we take into account traffic hitting the LB RAM cache, its going to be rather extensive. And if RAM cache traffic is counted towards the maximum throughput, I have my doubt 2Gbps is enough.

Hi Erik,
I don't believe the 2Gbps maximum is hard set. I think that's what F5 has tested as the limit of what the platform can support. I expect that he RAM cache client request and LTM response should be counted towards the throughput stats.
Aaron - Steve_Scott_873Historic F5 AccountI think thats tied to the size of the switchboard, so it is a fairly hard limit. Also funky features such as ram cache are going to tax the processors more extensively, as would iRules, etc.
3900 platform is 4 gig throughput and 4 core and isn't much more expensive than the 2 gig 2 core 3600, which makes it a much better buy imho
