For example, while I know there is a template for Exchange lets pretend there is not. How would I best decide on the amount...

CirrusIn my opinion, I would recommend keeping the persistence timeout as low as possible.It depends on application requirement. If the application timeout is 600s, I would say keep the persistence timeout slightly more than the application timeout. For 600s of application timeout, I would say, set it in the range of 600-630s.
