Observed Method for ISP Load Balancing?
Hi F5,
We would like to ask how does F5 measure the load balancing based on Observed Method.
Because we would like to use Observed Method as Load Balancing algorithm in our F5 LC with two ISP connections.
Based on the overview, the Observed Method is using both Least Connection and Fastest Connection.
Setup:
- Two Router representing two ISP.
- LB Method: Observed.
- Use Transparent ICMP pinging 4.2.2.2 on Pool_Gateway
Questions:
-
How does F5 measure the fastest? Is it based on the ping reply of 4.2.2.2 or reply of Pool Members?
-
Which have a higher priority, Least Connection or Fastest?
Since both of these method is used by Observed Method.
Hoping for your advise.

Fastest is based on the response time of the servers.
Observed uses a combination of Fastest and Least Connections in order to create a number for each pool member and sends traffic to the pool member based on this number. However, I haven't been able to find information on the exact algorithm.
