Multiple GTM Sync groups

We currently have a few old LTMs in a sync group running GTM version 10. We have bought new GTMs and installed version 11.   Is it possible to have ltms associated with multiple GTM sync groups ?...

That was actually going to be my next questions, but I was trying to find the answer on the support site first, as to whether or not allowing the newer GTM to update the big3d version on the LTMs would break the LTMs functionality with the old GTMs.
