Monitoring external syslog is working via SNMP

Hi,

Is there a I can determine if the LTM has an established connection to an external syslog server via SNMP?

The objective is to determine if the connection to the external syslog server has gone down, if the connection goes down then send an SNMP trap to a management station.

  • are you using UDP or TCP? If so you might have to create your own health check script. Perhaps a simple tcp connect script to the syslog port assuming its using TCP then if it fail use the snmp command to shoot a snmp trap.
  • Where using the standard port (believe this is TCP). Simply edited the syslog-ng.conf file to point to an external syslog server.

So there are no virtual servers created etc. We are using the syslog server to filter certain messages to an external log, everything else remains on the local LTM.
