LTM VIP Failure detection by GTM

Hi All,

 

 

I'm trying to work out how long a GTM will detects a VIP on LTM is unavailable. I'm quite unclear about the two values of Heartbeat timer and the BIGIP monitor timeout.

 

 

Default Heartbeat timer is 10s

 

Default BIGIP monitor is 91s

 

 

The manual say these values allow the GTM to get updated information from the LTM but not stating what information.

 

 

If based on the same concept of LTM monitor, the BIGIP monitor decide when a server is unavailable but I'm not sure on this. Default of 91s is quite long time for a highly redundant environment.

 

 

Can anyone clarify under what scenario these values are significant ?
