I have set this up before using an older 2511, however I did not have to run it through a patch panel. The cable off of the 2511 was not long enough so I had to extend it using an inline coupler to a regular cat 6 cable then onto the RJ-45 to DB-9 connector. This worked fine so I imagine running it through a patch panel would work OK to as long as the wiring is straight thru.
