Load Balancing on GTM between DC and DR (Ratio Based)

Hi experts,

We have received a requirement for load balance 50-50% traffic between Primary Data center and Disaster Recovery(DR) DC (on GTM) i.e 50% of hits are landed and served by DR LTM & remaining 50% by Primary Data Center LTM.

We are planning to achieve this through below changes under GTM :

1- DNS ›› GSLB : Pools : Pool List ›› Members : Pool_XYZ

2- Members

3- Under members , Click on Private (Internal) Pool Name and changed the preferred Load Balancing Method from "Global Availability" to "Ratio" .

4- Then under Pool Member IP, change Ratio to value "5" (which is by default 1) for DC IP Virtual IP and DR Virtual IP both ....as we require 50-50% traffic.

Repeat the same process for Public Pool

Please suggest, The significance of Ratio value which is by Default Value -1 (Under Pool Member IP) , Should this really require to change to 5-5 for DC and DR LTM IPs or leave unchanged. because by default value 1-1 for DC is DR may also perform the same thing which 5-5 will perform.

Note, Here we are considering 10 as the total hits and this is why changing Value 5-5 for DC and DR IP.

Regards

  • I may be missing something but if you are load balancing DNS queries between 2 diff data centers 50% at each why even use ratio. RR should do the job for you and will load balance LDNS queries between the both equally.

You need to set up persistence.
