Jul 20, 2009Load Balalnce Explicit Proxy and Cache rules
Hi All,
I am currently investigating the feasibility of using the BigIP to load balance a cluster of HTTP proxies. Connections to these proxies will be explicit, transparent is not an option.
Is it possible to use the f5 caching license/feature when load balancing explicit_proxy connections?
Thanks,
Scott-

Hi Scott,
It's certainly feasible. I run HTTP proxies which are explicit but I use the caching features on the proxy themselves rather then the F5 only because it was a cheaper solution for me when Ipurchased the Load balancer and proxies.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,

Thanks CB,
Specifically, I need to know whether the CACHE:: commands and profiles and available to a VIP passing explicit proxy requests.
Thanks,

In theory it should work. However, since you are dealing with the proxy you will have to experiment to see which Cache parameters maximize. Keep in mind that you will be viewing many different sites since it's for the proxy so some sites will take advantage of cache while other's won't.
I hope this helps
