LACP and frame distribution

Hi!

I'm setting up trunks on 2 LTM 3600 with v11.2.1, connected to Cisco Nexus.

Looking at the article sol13142: Configuring the BIG-IP system to interface with Cisco virtual PortChannel, it specifies frame distribution with "Source/Destination MAC address".

Is there any gotchas with selecting any other distribution?

I'm getting better load across the diffrent links with Source/Destination IP address.

/Andreas

    Hi Andreas,

The Source/Destination IP address is the best setting to choose with most LACP configurations. It supports the greatest amount of entropy on the wire and thus provides the best method of outbound distribution from the BIG-IP to the Cisco. Because multiple VLANs can share the same MAC on the BIG-IP, choosing the src/dst. MAC hash should be used with care. Likewise, it is less common to have a wide variety of layer 2 destinations as opposed to layer 3 destinations, so dest MAC is rarely used. These settings are mostly helpful in corner cases.
