Java variable ?

What does DIRECT mean in the following example excerpt from a .PAC file?   return "DIRECT";

Hi,

I am not sure here is the good forum for such question. 

return "DIRECT";
means the request will not be forwarded to any proxy server but the browser will open a TCP connection to the target server.
