Is there anything new with security for MS Outlook

Many of us have attempted to use MFA or Machine Cert Auth to secure Outlook (not talking OWA) but we run into the issue of Outlook not supporting that authentication method. Has anything been developed in this area? Is there any method for securing, restricting access to an on-prem Exchange server when the client is Microsoft Outlook, on a PC?
