Feb 11, 2009irules - data group list - external file getting binary character error - any ideas what may be causing error message?
We are creating an iRule to access an external page (static html page) to return to user if server is down. We created a file named maint.index.html.class and stored in /var/class dir in F5 LTM. We defined the external file in irules-Data Group List as "string". When we upload the file, the F5 returns an error message:
01070648:3 The requested string class (maint.index.html) member includes a binary character.
F5 tech asked us to create vi editor but still get same errors.
any ideas? the file is attached: (though under a different name)
Thanks in advance,
Sandra

I believe the file contains tab characters, which are known to trigger this error.
I loaded into TextPad and hit the right-arrow key, observing as I went along. You should be able to see this in Notepad as well, but don't use WordPad or anything else that inserts its own invisible formatting characters as you'll only make matters worse.
