Invalidations can be performed in multiple ways. Sending a SOAP message via iControl requires that a user have admin rights as well as performing an invalidation manually from the GUI.
Invalidations can also be configured via the policy using an invalidation trigger. With this method when a specific URI is accessed certain content from the cache gets invalidated. The URI can either be a custom obscure URL that is provided to the application owners, or the result of some user action within the application such as posting a response to a message thread on a Forum.
