health checks skewing web statistics

Hi All,

We have our web servers load balanced behind BigIP and also the web servers are monitored with another tool for number of hits etc. Since LTM is performing health checks, the tool reports the number of hits as very high.

Is there a way we can use an "user string" or some other mechanism on the health monitors so that these hits from F5 can be excluded?

I thought I had seen something on the forum related to this but I can't seem to find it now.

Any pointers?

  • I usually exclude on web statics app that I use to pull from the web servers.

  • Can you tell me how you are excluding it? When I look at the app, I could not differentiate between the BigIP health check Vs. a normal connection.

  • I use WebTrends which pulls the logs from the Servers and then I simply exclude any data from the F5 from the webtrends interface. I am not sure which tool you are using. This is something you may have to ask your vendor about? If it's not possible then I am not exactly sure how you can exclude the LTM health checks when they are intended to health check as if they were real traffic.

What did you set the intervals on the LTM monitors? Was it lower then the defaults?
