Health check via vpn tunnel.

Hello,

Is it possible to enable health check through VPN tunnel?, my firewall team denied to implement the health check due to the following reason,  health checks traffic from each of the F5’s going across a VPN tunnel to pool member and this will use a lot of CPU cycles on the firewall doing the encryption and decryption of the traffic.

Can you suggest how to proceed or any alternate way to check the member availability.
