GTM Version Upgrade in batches.
I got 8 GTM's 2 in all the 4 locations running on the same version. Have a query if I upgrade 2 at a time would there be any issue on the communication between the GTM's (2 on higher version and other 6 on lower versions). Though all would be upgraded to same version in batches.
Can it be done in batches or all need to be done in one Go ?

The sync group will not work between GTMs with different versions, as you already found out in that solution. That means no configuration synchronization, also monitoring will be affected because there maybe different devices doing monitoring.
The best approach is upgrade them all at once. Also, if the problem is getting approval for all device at the same time, don't forget that a change in any GTM may affect all datacenters, so in theory you still need approval to all datacenters. As you do one by one, there will be no complete downtime, as the system still work with the sync group disable.
If you want to go in batches, just disable the sync group in the devices you upgrade. Don't make any change in the configuration, so no new wide ips, until you upgrade all devices. When all devices are with the same version, just enable sync group in all devices, and all should be back to normal.
