GTM for Topology balancing of CDN
We have a GTM that we use for Topology load balancing, as we have multiple hosting sites across the world. We have now engaged with another private CDN and they now host some of our content. They host the content on the back of what we presume is a GTM (or similar technology). They make our content available to us via a wip'd FQDN.
We now want to set up our GTM pool to use the private CDN wip'd FQDN as a virtual server, along with our own hosting sites (i.e. IP's)
In effect we want the GTM to monitor our hosting sites (i.e. IP's) as well as the private CDN FQDN, and then respond appropriately with either the FQDN or the IP. Our requirement is to give the FQDN if available; if not, then to respond with one of our own IP's; our GTM would essentially respond with a DNAME (CNAME won't work as it is across zones) if the FQDN is available, otherwise with an A record (i.e. IP).
2 questions arise:
1. How do I add a Server to the GTM, where such a server is an FQDN (i.e. not an IP)?
2. How do I monitor such a server?
I could prob do this via iRules, but I'd like to know if the GTM is capable natively.
