GTM 11.3 - Multiple Domains, Different number of Views...

I have a couple of clustered GTM's serving up 3 distinct domains, however I need to have multiple views for only one of those domains...is that possible? I tried, but it seems that all views apply to all domains on a GTM.

Here's what I mean:

domain1.com - 1 view, everyone gets the same response domain2.com - 1 view, everyone gets the same response domain3.com - 2 views, "internal view" gets different response than "external view"

I trying to avoid having to maintain two zones (internal and external) for the domains which really only have one view.

It is probably very simple to do, and I am just missing something.

Thanks in advance,

Emmett

Views only apply at the bind level. Requests only go to bind if they are unresolvable by the Wideip. If you are resolving at the Wide IP level you will need to use topology records.

  • The domain I need to split only has no wideIPs, so it's all bind.

The other two domains have a few wideIPs, but is mostly handled via bind.

I cannot imagine that no one has needed to do this before.

  • Your question is actually a pretty common. From what I have seen in the past, here are your options:

    1. Use GTM for external requests, but use different GTM resource (could be another gtm or BIND or MS DNS server) for Internal requests. (most common)
    2. Use "views" at the bind(zonerunner) level on the GTM and manage both external and internal views
    3. Use wideip/topology combination to handle requests from both sides
    4. Use wideip/Irules to hand out different responses based on source IP of request.
