Give Root password for maintenance (or type Control -D to continue )

I am not able to remember password for root and not able to continue on Centos 5.5 Opereting system Please Assist me if anyone can help me

    Are you referring to being unable to log into a BIG-IP appliance via root or some other server/appliance?

      It's a Normal Server for Point of Sale terminal And it's Operating system is using by red-hat enterprise 5.5 server. I am newly for Linux so no much idea for linux if you can assist me anything please help me for this issue.
