FTP & SMTP security on ASM

Hi Everyone,

I have a small question related to the Licensing as below

  1. If the box is licensed as ASM (then as per my understanding) it offers the L7 security for the web application (http+https) only.

  2. But also when the box is licensed as ASM there comes an option of Protocol Security like (FTP & SMTP). But as per my understanding these two will work if the box is licensed for PSM as well. (M i right or wrong or there is an explanation to it?).

  3. Does FTP & SMTP security works (fully or partially?) when box is licensed as ASM? If yes then what is the PSM license for (provided this module is showing as not licensed in the provisioning section).

Can anyone explain pls....

  • check the below link Additional Attack Prevention using BIG-IP PSM and BIG-IP ASM http://support.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-ip_ltm/manuals/product/bigip-datacenter-firewall-config-11-1-0/9.html

  • Hi Mahmoud, Thanks for your reply but I am not looking for manuals I need to know the licensing details can you help in this.

  • Up until recently PSM and ASM were bundled as separate licenses. ASM is of course for HTTP security and PSM is for other protocols like FTP and SNMP. Depending on your licensing, and when you licensed the box, you may see PSM by itself, ASM by itself, ASM and PSM as a single "unit", or as separate sections in the GUI.
