F5 Viprion power supply log
Hi Guys,
Currently, we are planning to install F5 VIPRION 4480N along with one Blade 4300 type. Because of limited number of source power, we are planning to use 2 power supplies per-chassis. Power supply 1 and 4.
Today, we powered-up this VIPRION on our lab. And found out that the power supply alarm and led keep blinking though we had cleared it several time before.
The system displayed below log continously:
Jun 9 03:40:02 slot1/localhost emerg system_check[11423]: 010d0006:0: Chassis power supply 2 has experienced an issue. Status is as follows: STATUS=bad.
Jun 9 03:40:02 slot1/localhost emerg system_check[11423]: 010d0006:0: Chassis power supply 3 has experienced an issue. Status is as follows: STATUS=bad
my question: 1. Is it okay to use only 2 power supplies only out of total 4? 2. Is there any way to disable this alarm?
Thank you for any input
- Steve_M__153836NimbostratusI do not have a Viprion to reference, but I have used them in the past and my only guess would be to check somewhere within the cluster/chassis management GUI to see if there is any configuration regarding the power supplies there. If not I would open a case and see if there is a potential command line option to suppress the warnings. I can't find anything on my LTM appliance that would look related at all.
- ikmw_147199NimbostratusHi Steve, Thank you. Finally, I found how to suppress this power supply alarm. I suppressed this alarm by using this command: tmsh modify sys db platform.powersupplymonitor value disable tmsh save sys config Thanks
- Steve_M__153836NimbostratusGood to hear you found that. That looks like it will suppress anything that would be triggered by that monitor. If you are ok not having that error on problems with power supplies that you are using then you're all set. Otherwise you may want to contact F5.

Just leaving this comment so this post will stop showing up as unanswered.
It appears you resolved your problem by flipping a DB key. This means you won't get notification if there is a real power supply failure.
