F5 Two Interfaces As Non Vlan Interfaces

Hello, i have 2 interfaces connected to the f5 ltm that does not have a vlan assigned. both connected to different routers directly. the first one is working fine, connected it to 1.1 and set it up vlan 1 and untagged it, setup a self ip and it works ok. when im trying to add the second interface it gives me an error in which i cant set up 2 interfaces with vlan 1.

so what is the right way of setting 2 different interfaces with vlan 1 and self ip?

thanks O.

Ahh... Yes... BigIP doesn't do that... It's bitten me a couple of times... You need to use a different VLAN ID on the second interface (Which is why bigip adds a fake VLAN ID (e..g From 4097 upwards) to interfaces that aren't tagged.

Sounds like you're trying to tag untagged interfaces?

  • Hi O,

You do not need to match up VLANs with the upstream/downstream devices unless you are doing tagging via 802.1q. Thus you can pretty much use another VLAN for the other interface.

    I hope this helps,

  • Yep, It Helped. both are working fine now with fake vlan id's.
