Jul 15, 2008I suggest trying a standard HTTP monitor. It's more efficient than an external monitor and should provide the functionality you're looking for. You can configure the send string with the URI you want to make a request to. Then configure the receive string with a string only found in the first 5120 bytes of the response if the full chain of servers is up. You can test this from the BIG-IP using curl:
curl http://1.1.1.1:8080/path/to/file.ext
Compare the response when the app is up versus when it is down.
