DNS rewrite
Hi,
Is it possible to have the F5 do DNS rewrites?
What I am trying to do is as follows:
I have two servers that use the F5 for its gateway, web a and web b. Web b tries to make a procedure call using the url for a website on web a. In this example lets use www.school.com. So web a says I am looking for www.school.com. It asks its dns server which doesn't know so the internal dns server asks its forwarder who eventually finds out the www.school.com resolves to 66.203.55.10 (for example). The answer to the request comes back and has to pass through the F5 to get back to web A. Is there anyway on the F5 that is can read into that dns response/packet and rewrite it so that when web a gets the response back it is told that www.school.com is 172.16.5.2?
We need this to work using IPs. Adding the entry on the internal dns server to say that www.school.com is 172.16.5.2 is not an option for us.
Thank you.

Hi - you can do it easily using DNS services functionality (for which you have to pay extra $$$).
You can do it in a clunky fashion using TCP::collect, but depending on the volume of traffic, this might not be scalable.
Is there any way you can get a view configured on your DNS server so that only requests from web A get 172.16.5.2 for www.school.com, but everyone else gets 66.203.55.10?
