Could someone explain network mirroring

I have a LTM pair running V10.2.4 I read the articles on how to setup redundancy but I new and I really need some details on what it is doing such as do I use the self ip and how to determine which ones to use on unit 1 and unit 2

Redundency in v10 is a simple pair of devices that you have 2 'Active' units for (Unit 1 and Unit 2). The 'Units' are the object that moves between the two devices taking the services (i.e. VS's) with them.

Normally it's configured with BOTH unit and unit 2 running on the same device at any one time. To that effect you normally just leave your VS's belonging to Unit1 and ignore Unit2.

Self IP's come in 2 flavours. 1 that's associated with the device (non floating) and one that's associated with a Unit and floats to the active device. That's used for gateways by attached devices.

Normally you would configure VS's on their OWN IP address. not using the self-ups' (That does have exceptions of course).

Having said all that, just remember that v11 is different...
