AWAF is the new name for the old ASM module. In the Provisioning menu, you'll still need to have ASM enabled in order to use the AWAF capabilities. 

I haven't performed very many major software upgrades on ASM, but I recall that I didn't have many issues with the ASM policies. The upgrade process should be able to verify the configuration and import it again.

One thing you might try, is to export the policies in .bin format before upgrading, and then try to import them again from the .bin file. I do think that there might be some version control in place that might prevent this action, however. 

I see that you mentioned attachments, but I cannot find them. Do you mind sharing them again so that we have a better idea?
