Can I use BIG-IQ as standalone in 2 Data Centers? - 1 BIG-IQ in Data Center 1 and 1 BIG-IQ in Data Center 2

Hello everyone. We purchased BIG-IQ VEs recently and we are planning to remove EMs once BIG-IQs are good to go. Today, we have 2 EMs as standalone boxes in each Data Center and we would like to have similar set up for BIG-IQs (2 BIG-IQ VEs - 1 Standalone VE in DC1 and 1 Standalone VE in DC2 ). We are using v5.4.0 to support all our existing BIG-IP systems in our network. F5 Technical support says that we can't use BIG-IQs as standalone VEs in 2 Data Centers. They say that it needs to be configured as a HA pair (active BIG-IQ in Data Center 1 and standby BIG-IQ in Data Center 2). I would like to know if anyone is using BIG-IQs as standalone boxes in two Data Centers. Thanks.

I see no reason why you couldn't run them completely independent of one another. I think the ideal way to configure it would be in an ha pair.

Are you going to push updates to the bigips from the CM? Are your data centers active / active or is one a DR site. Why do you want two different CM's to manage your devices?
