BIG-IQ CM sizing for large scale environments

I used the F5 sizing guide available for download, but it only helps for the DCD.

The document https://techdocs.f5.com/kb/en-us/products/big-iq-centralized-mgmt/manuals/product/big-iq-centralized-management-plan-implement-deploy-6-0-1/01.html#guid-13617a30-2d57-4243-89b6-e4d9b1f098e5 does not give a lot of details on sizing,

Suppose your environment is too large for one CM, and you want to push code to a single BIG-IQ CM for updates, how can you scale CM?

  • Hi DeeJz,

The document that you linked appears to give a number of devices that can be managed by one CM.

"BIG-IQ can manage up to 200 (physical, virtual, or vCMP) BIG-IP devices."

That being said, I see what you mean by potentially wanting to scale the CM to manage more than that. With that in mind, every environment is different and I wasn't really able to find any specific documentation related to sizing or scaling up a CM device. My recommendation would be to reach out to your F5 Sales Rep/Account Team to discuss sizing with them as it relates to your environment specifically.
