does each unit advertise a route ( both active & stand by ) , or onlt active advertise ? also is this using self or Floating IPs ?

Where BGP is concerned I think both units advertise but using the Floating Self IP as the next hop, so traffic always arrives at the active device. If you don't use Floating Self IPs, things tend to get a bit messy. I'm afraid I'm not sure where OSPF is concerned.

BGP/OSPF in Redundant Pairs
