BGP or L2 to the LTM

Just wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages to using BGP to the LTM instead of say a trunked connections?

    Layer 3 routing on the LTM instead of just a L2 connection. If you want the F5 to make route decisions BGP is an option.

    I guess what Im looking at is besides the obvious being able for the F5 to make routing options is there any advantage/disadvantages of using one over the other. We currently are using trunks to the F5 and wondering if we would gain anything by going to a full L3 solution besides the removal of L2 at a point in our network.
