BGP configuration active/standby route advertisement

Hi,

I'm working on setting up BGP on a active/standby bigip cluster to talk to two Cisco nexus with BGP. See design below:

BigIP 1 peers with R1 BigIP 2 peers with R2 BigIP 3 has static routes to R1/R2 HSRP address.

The servers on 1.1.1.0/24 need to connect to 2.2.2.0/24 and the other way around. To do this I have created VIP:s as Forwarding (IP) for the respective networks.

I have some questions regarding this.

  1. Is this a good design regards to the different AS? What is best practice?
  2. I have an issue with route advertisements. If I have understod the documentation correct I need to add redistribute kernel to the bgp configuration and box in the Advertise Routes on the Virtual Address. Will this only advertise the networks from the Active bigip?

Best Regards Andréas

  • Hello Andréas,

I never setup BGP on the F5's but I did find some good docs on Ask F5, for BGP. You can probably use RHI (route health injection)

    SOL BGP
