Best way to publish difficult java app on a fullwebtop with other portal apps on APM

Hi big brains, I have a difficult java app that only seems to work when i have it as a minimal patching portal resource and a static pool on the policy branch. i have it published on a full webtop with other portal resources that are AD group assigned and it seems ok despite notes saying you shouldn't run a minimal patching portal resource on a webtop.

My problem is that this difficult java app has links to other internal resources and i can't figure out how to get the link fqdn replaced with the webtop vip fqdn for it. I've fiddled with the host patching on the minimal patching part of the portal access resource, i've tried an irule on the webtop vip that doesn't seem to work. I've run out of ideas at the moment.
