Apply request ICAP scanning in iRule

I am attempting to apply a request adapt profile in an iRule that will be applied to an iApp that doesn't have the option to associate a request adapt profile to the virtual server. All of my attempts have resulted in the following error:

 

ADAPT::select in rule requires an associated REQUESTADAPT or RESPONSEADAPT profile on the virtual-server

 

So is there a way to associate a request adapt profile within a iRule for all traffic?
