Any other developer tools (simulators, etc.)?

I'm evaluating integration possibilities between Big-IP and our product (Teracruz dbAppliance). I've downloaded the SDK, and begun browsing through the iControl docs. My question is:

Is there any sort of simulator/emulator that can play the role of a Big-IP product for development purposes?

I'm NOT expecting the emulator to be able to route traffic/load balance (etc.), that would be a "demo/eval" version. I'm thinking of examples like the "cell phone emulators" you get with the WAP tool chain, or the PDA emulators for PDA development, etc.

  • Currently we do not have a device emulator. I've heard this request before but until now it has been solely from our sales group.

The majority of our developers are trying to automate processes in their current infrastructure and have access to a device..

We may look into this in the future but odds are it won't be in the near term (1+years out).

Good luck and keep us posted with what work you are doing. We are always looking for applications to showcase our our developer site.

  • Hi Joe,

I am also trying similar integration of BigIp SDK with Appserver, I downloaded the SDK, and playing around with the APIs to control/access Appserver cluster, instances for load balancing. But right now, I am working on the prototype from development team, and don't have the BigIP h/w box physically in our lab, so do you have any simulator or client to simulate the load balancer so that I can test it for the prototype purpose to prove it to our development/product team that it can do the job, and ask for funding to get the box inhouse for further SPI development for BigIP Plugin on Appserver.

Basically I am looking for the Web Services APIs through some applications that can be deployable to something like Tomcat which can be accessible from Appserver for load balancing configuration purpose.

Its been 7-8 months this question was posted, so if you have any solution or workaround to my issue, please let me know.

    thanks a lot.

    Dinesh,

Unfortunately, we still do not have a simulator that you can play with.

  • Hi Loc,

can you point me to some test tool or any other way of testing this? that will be great help and appreciated!

    Hi Dinesh,

On the client side, you can use any of the SDK samples, including the C DistributionMonitor sample app, to test the SDK, as well as using the samples as reference for your development.

What's missing is the server side, and currently there's no tool or test app that I know of that can simulate what BIG-IP does. You need to have a BIG-IP device (either eval or production) in order to run the samples.

  • Hi Loc,

I have sent you a email to reply me on my personal email, so please

respond me on my personal email that i sent you.

Also pls let me know if there is a easy way to get eval BigIP device

for our prototype, before we ask for funding on further project.

    thanks
